Broome Manor youngster Cillian Roberts enjoyed more success as he finished runner up at the 1st International Venice Junior Open in Italy.
The eight-year-old already has the prospect of playing at the “Home of Golf” next weekend in the Wee Wonders Final and warmed up nicely for that event in Italy.
Roberts was the only British player in the competition and took a share of the lead in Venice after carding a first round one over par 37.
A birdie on the first hole of his second round saw Roberts start his final round in some style before finishing with a two over par 38.
And it was only a sensational round of three under par by American Matthew Golovanov which denied him the overall title.
Golovanov’s overall score of 73 eventually gave him a two-shot victory from Roberts and Miguel Morato Brede, who both finished joint second.
His second place finish now means the youngster will play ay the World Junior Championships at Pinehurst Golf Club next August.
Speaking after his success, Roberts said: “I’m delighted, I played some very good golf. I would like to thank my mum, dad and my coach Lee Hayward.
“Also I would like to thank all the support from my friends and family on Facebook.”
Father Chris, who was caddying for his son during the event, said: “Darlene and I are so proud of him.
“His hard work and dedication has got him his first podium place on the US Kids Golf Tour.
“We would like to say a massive thanks to Lee Hayward, head coach of SP Golf Academy, he has done so much for Cillian.
“He has now been given green status for the World Championship in Pinehurst Golf Club next August.
“At this age that is some achievement.”
