Congratulations to SPGA girls player Olivia Bannon, who on the weekend of St.Patricks day represented the under 16’s Welsh development team in a match versus team Ireland, played at Rosslare GC.

The weather was brutally tough and very windy, to the point that the match had to be reduced on round 2 after Wales led the Irish team by 2-1.

Olivia and her partner Hollie Jenkins halved their first match in a tough contest against 3 & 4 handicap golfers Olivia McCrystal and Emma Fleming.

Sunday was singles day and with Wales narrowly leading the match it was all to play for, after another tough windy day Olivia won her debut singles match 2 & 1 and Ireland comeback to win the match 5-4 in a nail-biting finish.

Olivia’s coach Lee Hayward said this:

“This was a outstanding achievement by Olivia and a huge experience for her to be part of a national team match. Olivia works extremely hard on all aspects of her game and has been especially dedicated at sticking to her plans in her winter coaching programme. She has taken on some tough swing changes this winter, along with working hard on her fitness in the gym, this has no doubt shown in her game and she really does deserve this reward. Well done Liv you have a very proud coach”

All at the academy are very proud of Olivia’s achievement and look forward to seeing her progress in the 2019 season.
